Lubbock Laser Treatment for Fungal Toenails

"A Pain-free, safe and effective way to treat nail fungus"

Toenail Fungus Laser TreatmentThis NEW Toenail Fungus Laser technology kills the pathogens that cause toenail fungus (Onychomycosis).

The laser procedure for nail fungus requires only one or a small number of safe, quick treatments with little discomfort and is performed as an outpatient service with no anesthesia. The gentle laser light beam has no effect on healthy tissue. No drugs are used, eliminating the total-body side effects of traditional oral medications. The procedure is safe, effective and FDA cleared for fungal nails.

It is open toe shoe and sandal season almost year round in Texas. Unfortunately, some people have unsightly thick, yellow toenails. There have been multiple treatments for fungal toenails (Onychomycosis) such as oral medications, topical medications and simply no treatment at all.

Oral Medications such as Terbinafine have a very effective kill rate of fungus as well as a successful clinical cure rate. But, many patients are reluctant to pursue this route due to the fact that it has side effects and can possibly elevate the liver enzymes which are checked prior and after one month of use of oral medications.

Topical medications are effective but can take a long time to show results; ie: 1 year. Plus, topical medications have to be used twice a day, everyday. Most patients are diligent for the first 2-3 months but most become non-compliant due to impatience. The positive side is there are very minimal systemic side effects with the use of topical medications.

Then, there is no treatment. Patients are not really concerned because they think there is no effective treatment for the fungus. Men generally seem to be more accepting of the nail and understand that it maybe from fungal skin infections due to shoe gear or sweaty feet. Women more often want a solution to get rid of the problem as soon as possible. With that said, nail fungus surely affects both men and women in its own way.

Now, by many requests from patients, WE HAVE AQUIRED THE FDA APPROVED LASER; THE HYPERBLUE 1530 SYSTEM. This is approved for clearing of fungus of the nail. The laser light penetrates through the nail and soft tissue to both kill fungus in its path, and promotes new nail growth. Once the living fungus is zapped by the laser, healthy nails begin to grow from the cuticle of the nail. This utilizes infrared radiation which is not painful and it is safe to gently heat the base of the nail. This area of the nail is where the fungus lives.

This system eradicates the fungus, but BY NO MEANS IS THIS A SINGLE SILVER BULLET. It will require repeat visits for treatment over a 3 month period. The treatment is typically 15 minutes, spaced 30 days apart for 3 months. As the nail grows slowly, it can take approximately 6-8 months for the new nail to replace the old infected nail. It is VERY EFFECTIVE.

After the treatment, there are certain protocols that must be followed at home to prevent the growth of the fungus. The nail must grow out completely to visualize the clearing. You can polish your nail BUT IT IS ADVISED THAT NAIL POLISH DOES NOT STAY ON THE NAIL FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME. This treatment is very promising and many patients have had this LASER treatment performed around the country.

Because this laser treatment is considered "cosmetic," it is not covered by insurance, but patients may use their health or flexible savings account.
